About Angela “A.J.” McDonald

 
Angela "A.J." McDonald is the Owner & Operator of THE RED BALLOON Dementia & Alzheimer's Consulting Services, LLC serving the Gulf Coast. She recently moved to Mobile, AL to from Boston, MA where she was the Director of Memory Care Services for Wingate Healthcare, Genesis Healthcare, and served as a dementia consultant for LCB Senior Living.  She also served as Senator Ed Markey's (D-MA) Ambassador for Alzheimer's Care for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the past 6 years where she has spoken on Capitol Hill multiple times for public policy related to Alzheimer's research and funding. She is a physical therapist by trade with a specialization in neuropathology, a Certified Dementia Practitioner and a Dementia Care Therapist. She formerly was the Chair of ALZtogether in Boston, MA now known as Young ProfessionALZ which is a group of young advocates working to enrich the lives of those living with Alzheimer's or a related dementia. She was on the board for Artz for Alzheimer's in Boston, Alliance of Dementia Professionals, and Boston's MetroNorth Alzheimer's Partnership. She was the Chair for 5 years of Boston Blondes vs. Brunettes, a female flag football league, that raised over $250,000 for the Alzheimer's Association. She served as Captain and quarterback of the blonde team as well! She was a member of the Alzheimer's Association RUN TRI RIDE team and ran in multiple races for fundraising including the Boston Run for Memory. She has been a Team Captain for over 10 years for the Walk to End Alzheimer's in multiple cities and served as Co-Chair of the Mobile Bay Area Walk to End Alzheimer's in 2017.  She facilitates an Alzheimer's Support Group for carepartners and a Grief Support Group for those who have recently lost a loved one to Alzheimer's at Christ United Methodist Church  twice a month in West Mobile. She currently also works as the Director of Life Enrichment and as a Memory Care Educator at The Blake at Malbis in Daphne, AL.  A.J. recently got married in July 2017 to her husband, Chris McDonald, who is the Certified Athletic Trainer for University of South Alabama Baseball. When you can't find her advocating for those with Alzheimer's, you can find her at the baseball field cheering on the Jags! She and her husband live in West Mobile with their furry kid, Bullet, who is a certified therapy dog and service animal. A.J. is a board member of Gulf Coast Senior Services and is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Harvard University's Extension Program.
